For those of you driving to Val d'Isere this season, here's a bit of information to help you out.

Directions
As you come out of the final tunnel, you will see the beautiful resort of Val d'Isere sprawling infront of you.
The first area of Val d'Isere you come to is called La Daille - drive through here and keep going toward the centre of Val d'Isere.
Drive past the Pharmacy, Spar, Petrol Pumps and Val Pizza.
Take the next signposted right where there is a building called Le Fjord.
Drive up the gentle hill and take at right at the end of the street.
Drive past the Foret Bar and Ecole Maternelle for about 250 metres until you reach La Graal Nightclub on the left.
Take the next road on the left directly after the nightclub. This road is relatively steep and icy.
We are the 2nd building on the left after the garages.

Please only attempt the hill up to our hotel if you have snow tyres, four wheel drive or snowchains. If you can't make it up the hill in your vehicle, leave your car at the bottom and we will come down and pick you up.

Parking
Parking at the Gelinotte is extremely limited and on a first come first served basis. The garages are on a fairly steep hill and vehicles often require snowchains to access them.

For most people, you will end up having to drop bags off at the hotel and then find somewhere else to park. We will make this process as quick and easy as we possibly can for you.

Pedestrian areas are given priority in the resort centre and there is very limited street-side parking in Val d’Isere town, but both underground and outdoor car-parks are available. There are two free, outdoor car parks in La Daille – just past the Funival on opposite sides of the road, but these are often full and indoor parking is recommended in the winter due to the unpredictable conditions. There are five covered car parks all costing ~20€ per day or ~ 80€ per week, and some are bookable on-line at www.parkingvaldisere.com. Booking is advisable during peak weeks such Christmas, New Year, February half-term and Easter.

As you drive into Val d’Isere, the car parks are located as follows:

Parking Pierre et Vacances: Covered car-park attached to the Pierre et Vacances hotel opposite the Centre Commercial in La Daille.
Parking du Funival: Free open car parks on opposite sides of the road just past the Funival.
Parking de la Balme: Covered car park attached to the Les Jardin de la Balme self-catered apartments in the Verdets area of Val d’Isère. (the first available right hand turn before entering Val d’Isere). Car-park can be booked and paid locally.
Parking du Centre de Congrès: Covered car park just next to Club des Sports at the bottom of the Solaise slopes in the Verdets area of Val d’Isere.
Parking du Centre: Covered car-park pre-bookable online located right in the centre of town 100m from the Solaise area opposite Dicks Tea Bar.
Parking Rond Point de Pistes: Covered car park attached to Maeva Le Rond Point des Pistes Residence at the bottom of the Solaise ski area just opposite the Solaise Express.
Le Laisinant: On leaving Val d’Isere, there is a free, open car-park on the right hand side at the bottom of the Laisinant Express left.
La Fornet: During the winter, the road terminates at Le Fornet and just prior to this, there is a small open car park on the right hand side. Parking here is very limited.

NOTE : If you park illegally in Val d'Isere the Police Municipal (Traffic Police) will be hot on your tail! You will usually get a warning (yellow ticket) first time round, but if you leave your car somewhere you're not meant to, it is very liable to be towed.

Driving
For environmental reasons, Val d'Isere has taken the decision to stop salting the roads in resort. Therefore, while the road up to Resort is usually in great condition, Val d'Isere itself is likely to have hard packed snow and ice throughout. It is likely that you will require snowchains in resort, especially if you are using summer tyres. Please bring them with you and know how to fit them if need be.

Finally, a great website for summarising delays on the French road network is Bison Fute. Well worth a look before you set off on your journey.

If you have any questions regarding bringing your vehicle, please post here. If you have any problems on route, you can call me on 00 33 6 33 00 25 76 and I will do my best to help.

Have a safe journey and we look forward to seeing you out here.

Dear Henry

I have just booked to come out to you this coming weekend. I can see there is limited parking available at the chalet - ideally we would park there but presume I can't pre reserve this ? If we get there and either we can't get up to you or its full, where would you suggest we park (closest ?) and do we need to pre book it ? Also, if we don't park next to the chalet would somebody be able to come down and collect us and our luggage ?

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday
How is the snow ?

Hello Caroline,

Im afraid the parking at the hotel is on a first come first served basis. However, if you give me a call when make it to resort, we will do our best to make your arrival as easy as possible one way or another. Hopefully you'll find a parking space with us but be warned, the garages are fairly small and not suitable for very large cars.

If you decide to go for a public car park, the two best options are La Daille outside carpark because it's free and Centre Carpark because it's in the center of Val d'Isere, closest to the hotel and covered so you won't have to dig your car out at the end of the week. You can prebook Centre car park at parkingvaldisere.com which is cheaper than paying in resort.

The snow is excellent and there is another 15cm forecast before Saturday in resort.

Have a safe journey and we'll look forard to seeing you on Saturday.

Hello Liz,

I'm afraid we don't have a map with the hotel marked on it yet. We are working on it, but in the mean time if you do get lost, give me a call and I will come and find you.
