Dear Guests,
Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself and our exciting new Chalet Hotel in Val d'isere. My name is Henry and I am Hotel Manager for The Gelinotte this season. Having worked in several roles for Ski Power in the past, I can vouch for the company's exceptionally high standards across the board and look forward to bringing these to Val d'isere.
On arrival at The Gelinotte, you can be assured of a warm welcome from our team who will do their very best throughout to make your holiday the highlight you expect.
After picking up your keys, you will be shown to your comfortable room, tastefully decorated in the local Savoyard style and complete with piste maps and any pre-ordered ski passes. Once you've settled in and got your bearings, you can make the most of our cosy residents only bar before dinner where you will be greeted with a selection of delicious canapés every night.
We know that the consistent quality of our food and wine is a key factor which keeps our customers coming back year after year so expect a delicious 5 course meal every evening. Breakfast is a hearty affair with a fresh, filling buffet laid out and Bacon & Eggs cooked to order.
On return from a great days skiing, you'll find a delicious cake laid out, a nice sauna to relax in, free wifi to stay in touch with, plenty of hot water to have a good soak and a really comfortable bed, should you want a rest before dinner. Alternatively, make the most of Val d'iseres renowned après ski where you can find everything from cosy atmospheric bars to an Austrian-style teatime rave at The Folie Douce.
Regularly voted one of the best ski resorts in the world, Val d'isere ticks all the boxes on and off the slopes. The village is beautiful, and has a great range of shops, restaurants, bars, clubs and amenities while the ski area is spectacular with 300km's of diverse runs to suit all abilities and some of the the best lift-served off piste in the world.
Although Val d'isere is famed for its more challenging skiing, beginners are well catered for with many wide cruisey blues and a great nursery area in the village. Lifts on the nursery slope are free so you needn't spend money on a ski pass until you are ready to progress.
To get the most out of your holiday, I thoroughly recommend spending a day with our ski host Neil, who knows all the pistes of the Espace Killy like the back of his hand. Whether you're looking for the gentlest greens or the most challenging moguls available, Neil is sure to find the best pistes and conditions Val d'isere has to offer, and at no extra fee.
If you have any questions about the hotel, village or Ski Power in general, please don't hesitate to leave me a message.
From the team at The Gelinotte, we look forward to meeting you this season.

Hi Henry,
Thank you for the introduction. I am with you at the beginning of December in a party of 12 for a week and then again at the beginning of March in a party of 31 for a week. Speaking to Pip, she suggested I contact you here to make sure you get the bar fully stocked with Cider! very important for me!! Really looking forward to the opening week in December.
Kind regards

Hello Matthew,
Thanks for the heads up; I'll have a selection of France's finest Ciders on ice for your arrival. If you've got a favourite brand, give me a shout and I'll see what I can do.
I'm delighted to see the weather forecast for the coming week is looking really good, with some early snow expected next Wednesday (21st October).
I'll leave regular updates on snow conditions in resort from Mid November when I arrive.
Look forward to meeting you in December.
Kind Regards,
-- Henry Val d'isere

Hi Henry We have just booked to come to you for the New Year week we will be driving and I wondered what the parking is like at the Gellinotte. We do have four wheel drive so snow is not a big problem just need to know we can park near to the Hotel? Can you tell me if we will be spending the evening of New Year in the Chalet? what night is the Chalet night off? thank you

Hi.
Firstly, thanks for booking with us. I'm sure you will have a great time. There is very limited parking available at the Gelinotte as we say in our description of the hotel on our web site. Access is up a steep hill and can be difficult, but if you have a four wheel drive and chains you should be fine. We are in fact in the process of building 3 new garages just around the back of the hotel. We are fairly confident that these will be finished for this season, but can't offer any guarantees.
There are other free parking facilities in Val D'Isere and we would be happy to pick you up from these and drop you back at the start and finish of your holiday, (provided we have a minibus in resort at the time you arrive/depart). A good source of information is valdinet.com. For yor reference I have detailed below their view of parking in Val D'Isere.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pedestrian areas are given priority in the resort centre and there is very limited street-side parking in Val d’Isere town, but both underground and outdoor car-parks are available. There are two free, outdoor car parks in La Daille – just past the Funival on opposite sides of the road, but these are often full and indoor parking is recommended in the winter due to the unpredictable conditions. There are five covered car parks all costing ~20€ per day or ~ 80€ per week, and some are bookable on-line at www.parkingvaldisere.com from October. Booking is advisable during peak weeks such Christmas, New Year, February half-term and Easter.
As you drive into Val d’Isere, the car parks are located as follows:
Parking Pierre et Vacances: Covered car-park attached to the Pierre et Vacances hotel opposite the Centre Commercial in La Daille. Parking du Funival: Free open car parks on opposite sides of the road just past the Funival. Parking de la Balme: Covered car park attached to the Les Jardin de la Balme self-catered apartments in the Verdets area of Val d’Isère. (the first available right hand turn before entering Val d’Isere). Car-park can be booked and paid locally. Parking du Centre de Congrès: Covered car park just next to Club des Sports at the bottom of the Solaise slopes in the Verdets area of Val d’Isere. Parking du Centre: Covered car-park pre-bookable online located right in the centre of town 100m from the Solaise area opposite Dicks Tea Bar. Parking Rond Point de Pistes: Covered car park attached to Maeva Le Rond Point des Pistes Residence at the bottom of the Solaise ski area just opposite the Solaise Express. Le Laisinant: On leaving Val d’Isere, there is a free, open car-park on the right hand side at the bottom of the Laisinant Express left. La Fornet: During the winter, the road terminates at Le Fornet and just prior to this, there is a small open car park on the right hand side. Parking here is very limited.
NOTE : If you park illegally in Val d'Isere the Police Municipal (Traffic Police) will be hot on your tail! You will usually get a warning (yellow ticket) first time round, but if you leave your car somewhere you're not meant to, it is very liable to be towed.

Hi Craig The new garages sound good! lets hope they will be finished!!! if not which is the nearest car park to book to the chalet? we would be arriving in the early evening of Boxing day so a lift with our luggage would be great we would be happy to leave the car if it is in a car park or if we can get up to the chalet we would only need a small space. thanks

The Parking du Balme is the nearest parking to the Hotel. It is down the same turning as you enter Val D'Isere as the Hotel.

Hi,
We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teenagers) who have booked in to the Hotel Gelinotte for New Year week and will be arriving on Boxing Day evening by car. Just like the earlier posting from Rohana, will we be able to park behind the hotel or should we use one of the free parking spots in Val - and if so would we be able to get a lift to the hotel with our luggage?
Please could you also confirm whether or not dinner is provided on New Year's eve? (i.e. what is the chalet staff night off that week?)
Many thanks for your help - we are looking forward to meeting you all.
Kind regards
Julie

Hi Julie We are just setting up at the Gelinotte at the moment and I can't give you a definite answer regarding parking at the hotel at the moment but will ensure you get an update when things are clearer. We will of course assist you with your bags etc to the hotel if you park below the hotel in the public car park. Dinner is served on New Years Eve. Staff night off is Tuesday in Val D'Isere.
Right now it's snowing in Val D'Isere - about 15cm just today at the hotel

Hello Julie,
Unfortunately, parking outside the hotel is very limited but we would be delighted to give you a hand with your bags up to the hotel. If you give me a call when you are in resort, I will send somebody down to collect you.
Having just completed our first week here, I can tell you that the hotel in great and the snow condidions are excellent.
I look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks.

Hi
If you are booked with Ski Power directly (and not with an agent)you can book this diretcly on line with Ski Power. Simply log into your booking (pelase ask your party leader for the booking login) and then you will see pre bookable extras. There is a section for ski hire, equipment and tailor made.. These need to be booked within 48 hrs of departure. If you have booked through an agent then you will need to pre book these with the UK office on 01737 306029 Regards Pip Parry SKi Power Sales

Hi Henry,
Thanks for offering to collect us on arrival in Val - that's really kind of you. We will give you a call when we arrive - this should be around 7pm (traffic permitting).
I've tried to book Parking de la Balme online but can't seem to find a site to do so. Do you know if this car park is pre-bookable or do we just turn up and find a space (hopefully)?
Many thanks
Julie

Hi Julie,
10cm of powder snow fell in Val d'isere last night and we're forecast another 30cm before you arrive. Snow conditions are perfect!
You can book the main carparks online at the following address. The booking system is all in French but it's fairly easy to understand. If you need help with it though, let me know and i'll send you an email talking you through it.
http://www.parkingvaldisere.com/
Parking de la Balme can't be booked through this website but I will go down there this afternoon and investigate how to book it and the cost.
Although it is forecast to be sunny on Saturday, the roads in resort will all have hard packed snow and ice on them - they don't salt the roads in resort anymore. If you have summer tyres on, please be very very careful. I would recommend bringing snowchains with you and knowing how to fit them.
I'll get back to you with the Parking de la Balme details.
Regards,
Henry

Hi Henry,
Are you still running the hotel? How did you first season go?
3 friends and I have booked a week in the family room (2 adjoining twins?) from 22nd Jan. We've not been to Val d'Isere before and are already excited!!! :-) Can you give me an indication of the bar prices (e.g. price of a pint of beer)? Also, is it possible to upgrade to have "chalet wine" with the meals?
You also mentioned there is a guide, Neil. How do we book a day with him?
Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of your team (and to our 6 days on the mountain!) Mark

Hi Mark
Yes we are still running the Hotel. Regrettably Henry has returned to the Uk to study medicine. However our management team for this coming season will look after you very well.
Our prices for beer and wine are very competitive. Our house wine is €15 per bottle, however you can purchase unlimited wine for the entire week of your stay for a mere €55 per person if booked in advance or €75 if you wait until you arrive, so definitely cheaper to purchase before you arrive. Alternatively we have a new option of unlimited drinks, which includes beer, wine and spirits and soft drinks. This is priced at €140 for the week if you purchase in advance or €180 if purchased in resort.
Our ski hosting service continues to be a free of charge service and is (on this basis) allocated on a first come first served basis when you get to resort. If you want to pre book a day or days you can and this has a reservation fee of €3.99 per day. It is free if you wait until you get to resort but is a service that is in demand and so we do recommend pre-reserving.
All of the above can be booked online. If you log into your booking online you will see a panel on the right hand side of the page. Underneath where you book Ski Passes and Equipment Hire you will see the third option is "book extra touches" If you click on this link you can pre-book your ski hosting and unlimited wine/drinks packages.
I do hope this has been of help to you

Hello France, this is England calling. We`re 4 in the name of Jackson coming to the Gelinot on Saturday 8th Jan. I`ve booked flights and transfers independently and in the rush to co-ordinate the 3 bookings didn`t notice that the Ben`s bus transfer doesn`t leave Geneva until 3 p.m. Will you save us some dinner if we`re delayed? What`s your phone number? Is there any chance of the minibus picking us up from the bus station? We`re ever so nice y`know !! Jim

Hello James
Geoff here, Resort Manager out in Val d'Isere.
Dinner on Saturday will not be a problem. We Normaly serve canapees at 1930 so you should be in for then. If not we will be able to keep something aside for you should you arrive a little late. Please do not hesitate to call me (0033 6 33 00 25 76) or our Hotel Manager Andy (0033 6 58 24 75 88) at any time before or during your journey to keep us up to date with your progress or simplly for any info we may be able to provide.
With regards to fetching you from the Bus station this should not be a problem providing our vehicles are back in resort after the weekends transfers. Please give us a call with a rough eta to resort and we will be able to let u know if a vehicle is available at your arrival time. Failing that the bus station is approx 5mins walk from the Hotel so we'll be able to send out a search party on foot to lead you here.
Hope the journey goes smoothly. Look forward to meeting the four of you on Saturday.
Best Regards
Geoff
